It's 2120 and the surface of the earth has become uninhabitable. Nearly 8 billion people perish as the Earth is flooded by the ocean's waters. A lucky few, about 100 million, retreat to an underworld haven, a colony below the surface of the Earth, surviving in life supporting pods. The world as we once knew it is gone for at least 500 years, when scientist believe the Earth will be able to support life again. The survivors are governed by the Network who have developed everything required to keep humanity alive until they can start to live again.
The survivors trapped in their technological cocoons, have embraced an alternative reason to live and survive. A special program, called the PROPHECIA, enables one mind to inhabit the virtual world of another’s mind. Natural selection spurs the growth of a few very large and popular virtual worlds created and run by the most powerful minds. These Masters of the World are able to create the most elaborate and compelling virtual worlds and the masses flock to them. Some are virtual paradises but others are virtual hells - worlds that have gone rogue, where people die at unacceptable rates. When virtual worlds go rogue, the Network enlists
Transcendents who are assigned to enter the virtual world, to identify and terminate the Master of the World.
PROPHECIA is the story of Alex Six, one of the best Transcendents, or persons with minds capable of entering virtual worlds while maintaining knowledge of the real world. In each series, Alex is called to action, briefed on the virtual world and the suspected Master of the World. Alex enters each virtual world without a way back unless he completes his mission. He must live in the world as everyone else does until he is killed, dies or completes his mission.
In the first series, Alex is briefed on the latest world that has gone rogue, world VW-2342. In this virtual world townspeople have risen up to defend against a marauding gang. The gang quickly destroy the overmatched townspeople. Alex enters the town where he unintentionally establishes himself as a powerful fighter. Both the elders of the town and the evil gangsters try to recruit Alex to their side. Alex plays along, understanding that his mission is to find the Master of the World, whom he suspects could be either an elder or the gang leader.
